I was filled with so many thoughts as I tried to sleep before leaving Thursday morning on my roadtrip around the United States. Some were overwhelming as to what and why until I heard the words… “Don’t be afraid, just believe!” When I awoke in the early morning hours, I read the following words from John Steinbeck.
A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us. John Steinbeck

It wasn’t long after leaving the stresses of life in the OC that I began to relax as I started east on Route 66 that I began to understand the meaning of “a trip takes us.” I found the meaning in the people I met when I made a stop just before getting on Route 66, the people were so laid back and friendly, wishing me well and wishing they could go along with me.
Route 66 is a quiet road, few people travel it as you can see from this picture where I pulled over just to take in the scenery. I think I was stopped for 10 to 15 minutes and not a car passed in either direction. Out in the distance were trains, cars and semi’s traveling east and west on Highway 40. It was warm and yet very windy. I knew I couldn’t go back, I just had to keep pressing forward…”a trip takes us.”
After about 400 miles, I decided it was time to pull over and find a place to stop for the night. Low and behold I was at the Historic Route 66 Motel in Seligman, Arizona.
