The Biblical Definition of a Promise

A promise is a binding declaration or guaranteed assurance given by God regarding His future actions, intentions, and blessings. Divine promises are absolute commitments rooted in God’s unchanging, truthful, and faithful character, meaning He has the power and intent to fulfill every promise.

This definition was not found in a dictionary, for definitions are man-made and constantly shifting. Words often lose or change their meaning over time. God does not give definitions; He gives His Word meaning through structure. This is a structure that does not change yesterday, today, or tomorrow. He reveals truth through physical architecture and historical action, always leaving something tangible to tell the story. He hides nothing, whether good or bad, but reveals it in His perfect timing.

The Six-Fold Structure of the Promise

Just as the sand dollar holds a five-fold symmetry that testifies to the Gospel, Scripture reveals a six-fold structure proving God’s first and greatest promise: that ALL will know Him.

            1          Creation (The Witness): On the 5th Day, Genesis 1:20-23, “God created the sea creatures.” The sand dollar, formed in calcium carbonate, stands as a physical witness from that very day, declaring His glory before a single word was written or man in His image was created on the 6th Day.

            2          Declaration (The Voice): Psalm 19:1 confirms that “The heavens declare the glory of God.” Creation itself is the first sermon, speaking a universal language that needs no translation.

            3          Prophecy (The Promise): In Jeremiah 31:34, God binds Himself with a vow: “They will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.” This is the core of the New Covenant.

            4          Covenant (The Confirmation): Hebrews 8:11 reiterates this promise, sealing it as the foundation of our relationship with Him.

            5          Christ (The Fulfillment): In John 6:45, Jesus claims this prophecy, stating, “They shall all be taught by God.” He is the living Word who makes the knowledge of the Father accessible to all.

            6          Completion (The Seal): On the cross, Jesus cried, “It is finished” John 19:30. The work was done. The promise was secured. The structure was complete.

As reported on the “About” page, Shore & Sand Co. was born from a 3-year journey to uncover what Jesus meant when He said, “It is finished.” What was finished? The search led to a “Damascus Road Moment,” pointing back to a sand dollar first placed in my hand 43 years ago.

I realized it was not an ending, but a beginning—the start of a loving God’s pursuit. The sand dollar was the physical anchor He left for me, a biological gospel that bridged the 5th Day of Creation with the finished work of the Cross. It was God’s way of saying, “I have structured this world so that you would know Me.”

This is our first step along the shore, the sand dollar a simple shell that stands as a bold testament that our Creator does not wait in the shadows; He actively pursues everyone, leaving His love letters in the physical world for all to touch.
