On the night of September 25, 1993, beneath the golden glow of the Parthenon, a standing-room-only crowd assembled to witness a stunning spectacle of sight and sound. The majestic stone arches of the 2,000 year-old Herod Atticus Theatre became the setting for a performance of a lifetime . The passionate audience warmly embraced its native son, internationally known composer and performer, YANNI, who was returning home in triumph after two decades in America.

YANNI’s message spoken in Greek.. “The next song describes an emotion that I am quite familiar with because I have been gone for many years from the place I was born, Kalamata, Greece. It’s called “Nostalgia” and I would like to dedicate it to YOU.”

YANNI’s message spoken to the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra…”It is one thing to hear the music in my mind, it is another thing to hear the music materialize so YOU can hear it.”

YANNI’s message to all…”A little while back I was watching an interview with one of the astronaunts from the space shuttle. In this interview he was describing his experiences while he was orbiting the planet. He was saying how beautiful earth looked from above. He said much to his surprize while he was going over Europe he found he was having a hard time telling the countries apart from each other. He said the reason for that was that the lines in maps are not in the ground. He makes a great point these lines really don’t exist. They are made up completely and they perpetuate this illusion that somehow we are all different from each other and I think the world would be a much better place if we someday stopped pretending these lines exist and we concentrate on our similarities rather than our differences.”

“I just want you to remember one more thing that everything great that has ever happened to humanity since the beginning has begun as a single thought in someone’s mind and if anyone of us is capable of such a great thought, then all of us have the same capacity, ability because we are all the same.”
